Most readers won’t care that you eat Cheerios for breakfast. They may, however, be interested in the fact that vinegar takes out stains and that toilet paper rolls make great wreaths. 2.) Be substantial

If you are attempting to create the impression that you are knowledgeable about a specific industry or sector, be sure that you stay current on news. If you are endorsing a product or voicing an opinion, be sure to check your facts; your reputation is at stake. 3.) Make a news that is timely

Keep your posts and blog entries clear and easy to understand. Remember, the web is global and expressions, idioms and acronyms don’t always translate. Sometimes a little explanation goes a long way.

6.) Put multiple keywords

If the goal of your blog is to increase your visibility, include related keywords in the title of the blog. Use the title as a headline to attract interest. Each item post should have a title that will attract attention but still be relevant to the post. The title should be no longer than 10-12 words.

7.) Quantity matters.

In order to attract the attention of search engines, you will need to develop content and substance. A headline or simple sentence is not going to generate the interest of readers or help with search engine ranking. Be sure to archive old blog posts to develop a large portal of similarly-themed content.

8.) Update it regularly

If your blog content is updated frequently, search engines will tend to spider the pages at regular intervals.

9.) Check it for errors

It only takes a few extra moments and can save you from having to make embarrassing explanations. Remember that whatever you publish on the Internet can be found and archived. Think carefully about what you post before doing so.

10.) Try RSS

RSS will increase your blog’s reach. It is important that you include your blog’s content in an RSS feed to increase readership and distribution.

Most weblog audiences are small, but with time and regular updates audiences grow. Bloggers may never have more than a few hundred readers, but the people who return to regularly are generally interested in what you have to say.

Previously, we’ve covered Top 3 Contact Form Plugins for WordPress, but through use of Blogger and other systems, there have been few solutions to adding a contact form seamlessly without having to code the form into a new blog post. The Wufoo site presents a clear message: to make forms easy, fast, and fun. You can create contact forms, online surveys, and more with their tool, which doesn’t involve editing or viewing a single line of code. They have several payment options, starting with a free solution (one user, three forms, three reports, and ten fields, up to a hundred entries per month) through an account that allows unlimited forms and reports.

How to Rank Higher in Google – Creating Customized Permalinks in Blogger

What are Permalinks?

Permalinks tell a lot about the page it points to. One can read out the article name in the status bar of the browser when hovering over the permalink (by the way, permalinks are the permanent links to every post page which usually contains the title of the post). Search engines use permalinks to categorize the posts. Browsers use permalinks to navigate to remote pages.

How are they created …

Permalinks are generated automatically by your Blogging platform based on the Title of the post.

… in Wordpress?

Wordpress uses the whole of the title with white spaces replaced by ” – ” (hyphen) as its permalink. For instance the permalink of this post reads http://themelib.com/2009/01/how-to-rank-higher-in-google-creating-customized-permalinks-in-blogger.

Wordpress also lets you edit the permalink and make it read the way we like. This feature is extremely useful when you give fancy titles to your post. Such titles which are not self explanatory does not give any idea to a search bot regarding the content of the post. In Wordpress this can be edited so that, what the user reads and what the Search bot reads can be different.

… in Blogger?

Unfortunately, Blogger users are left with no option, but to accept the permalink automatically awarded to them. There is no option to customize permalinks. Blogger just takes the first few characters of the title (somewhere between 35 and 40) and makes a permalink which might be incomplete at times. For a post with the title, “The Advantages and Disadvantages of using a customized permalink every time”, the permalink will be something like http://themelib.com/2008/10/the-advantages-and-disadvantages-of/

What should I do?

Luckily we have come up with an idea to customize the permalink. The method is called “Publish and Republish method”. This is illustrated using the above example (“The advantages and disadvantages of using a customized permalink every time”)

Since Blogger permits only 35 to 40 characters in its permalink, find a short title for the post. For instance, ‘Analysis of Customized Permalinks’ can be a short title for the same post.
Publish the post with this short title. Now the permalink will read http://themelib.com/2008/10/analysis-of-customized-permalinks/
Blogger does not change its permalink even if we change the title of the post in future. We exploit this limitation of Blogger here. Edit the post (Manage posts -> Edit) and change the title to ‘The Advantages and Disadvantages of using a customized permalink every time’. Now the permalink will remain same, but the post title will read the new way.

Conclusion

This trick is useful when you decide to use stylish titles. It can also be used to remove the unnecessary details from the permalink and project the necessary ones. A concise permalink is one tip for SEO (Search engine optimization).

Embedded comment form for Blogger blogs

I’ve just read a good news from Blogger Buzz – the embedded comment form is brought out of Blogger In Draft and now is available to everyone. This is probably the most requested feature for Blogger, and I’m sure many of you will want to use this straight away! This feature puts the comment form at the bottom of each post page, below the comments, instead of on the separate, Blogger-styled page.

The embedded comment form is more convenient for your readers because they can use it to post a comment immediately, without clicking over to a different page.

Features of the embedded comment form

“Comment as”: Choose your profile when commenting. You can use your Google account, OpenID, Name/URL and all of the settings previously available when using a pop-up or full page comment form (depending on the settings you have chosen).

“Preview” button: Preview your comment before it is published

“Subscribe” link: If you’re logged in to Blogger with your Google Account, you can also subscribe to comments via email by clicking the “Subscribe” link. You don’t need to post a comment to subscribe

How to enable the embedded comment form

To enable the embedded comment form for your blog, go to the Settings -> Comments page and look for the Comment Form Placement setting. Change it to Embedded below post, save your settings, and go check out a post to see the new form in action.

That’s it. If you are using one of my customized Blogger Templates, you will need to do NOTHING more to your template code for this comment form to display

The Importance of Analytics and Stats Tracking

One of the first steps in creating a new blog, and any web project, for that matter, is to add tracking and statistics (analytics) to the HTML file or through a method that can directly track the site’s visitors through an external application. But, why is it truly essential to track your visitors from day one?

While you may be a tracking “junkie”, there is really no need to track each individual user unless you want an interactive and thorough level of understanding your visitors ~~(I used to do that )~~. This becomes nearly impossible as your blog grows to a point that it receives more than a thousand visitors daily—no one has the time to keep up with the constant inflow of new traffic.

Putting the stat-aholic aside, the main reason that you’ll want to add the tracking widget to your site is for tracking trends. You’ll want to know, in a snapshot view, the results of different “campaigns”, posts and social bookmarking/networking stumbles and diggs. Without these trends, you cannot grow your site, neither do you know if you are pleasing your visitors (resulting in a general increase in traffic) or targeting the right keywords.

One of the second main factors that you’ll want to consider in the decision to track your visitors is the long-term goals of your website. If you are planning on keeping the website forever, it is likely that you won’t be concerned about traffic and demographics. However, if at any point down the road you want to sell your site by putting it up for auction or sell it directly to a buyer, they will nearly always want to see some sort of proof (from your side) that you do in fact receive the amount of traffic that you claim. Without this proof, you have no basis to sell your site.

Finally, although you generally form your visitor base with the content you write, implementing a statistics program on your site will benefit you by allowing you to more accurately target a market, whether in a specific country, age group, or lifestyle (earnings, home value, etc.). Out of all factors, this may be the biggest reason to begin tracking your site today—you will be able to capture a new target audience, potentially one that has never been tapped before.

Conclusion

It is important to remember that whatever analytics program you use, whether free, such as Google Analytics(up to five million page views/month), Site Meter (more in-depth starting at 25K pageviews), Stat Counter (up to 500 pageview log/250K pageviews/monthly); there are limitations of each. There is no replacement for knowing the exact numbers of visitors by placing the code directly on your site.
