Tips On Choosing the Right Novelty for your Market
Novelty marketing can be a good way to spend a limited budget on small gifts for your customers and potential customers. You want to make sure you get this right, or you could just be wasting your money. Sometimes, some of the simplest and more common items are best, other times it is better to make something unique and interesting. The fact remains, most novelty and product-based marketing strategies are not done right, and the money spent is wasted. Look at the options your current business card printing company offers. Some of the most common items really do work. They may have a range of tried and tested products. If you are considering what to do, or what to choose, this article is for you. Tips on making the right choice for your market.
• Market Based Decision. The first thing to consider is your client and potential client demographics. If they are students, pens are a great option. If they are trade workers, something related to their tools, or even a cigarette lighter, might be a better choice. Defining the majority groups inside your target market based on the demographics of those people is the first step in making your choice. You want to reach out to the largest common denominator.
• Gimmick or Useful? Most novelty marketing items come in either of these two categories. Some items are purely for fun, while others are very functional. This should be the next choice. You can either make the decision at this point, or look at the options for both. Gimmick items can often only be ‘fun’ for a short amount of time. Either way, you want to make sure your final choice is something everyone wants to keep. The longevity of your marketing here is important. Both methods can work very well if done right.
• Quality. Even for the simplest of gimmick items, quality is important. Whatever you supply will be indicative of your company’s attention to detail. Great gimmick items that are functional, and last for a long time, are the best. In essence, you must examine the items that you will be giving. If they are pens, for example, you want them to be comfortable to use. Simple give-aways of poor quality will mean you don’t look good, and they will be thrown away fast.
• Numbers. As with any kind of production, the more you order, the cheaper the unit price will be. It is worth examining your options. If we compare this with booklet printing, where the unit price can change to less than 5% of a single item, you can see how much difference the investment will make. Double the amount of items will probably mean at least 1/3 of the price per item. The higher the numbers, the radically lower the unit price will be.
• Local Supplier. Unless you are looking for an enormous number of items, it is best you source your products locally. Those items may only be one cent each in China, but the hassle of buying them, checking the quality, and arranging packaging, transport, and payment options, can turn into a real nightmare. Many people make the mistake of buying from international e-commerce sites only to find the whole process time consuming and costly. Your local company has dealt with many issues to get those items close to you. This is not a job you want to tackle on your own.
