The Direction of Blogging
While there are strong indications that blogging will be one of the few “industries” that isn’t affected by economic downturns and problems on a national-global scale, there will be times where blogging sees a downturn in the number of people actively blogging. You likely won’t notice it as a casual visitor to your favorite blogs, but there will be slight declines in posts, more on a seasonal basis than anything else. The revenue sources will continue to be there, as long as there is demand and people are fulfilling those demands – blogging about topics that others are genuinely interested in.
It is quite obvious that the “social” revolution taking place will continue, at least for the short-term, with more people jumping on board the Twitter and micro-blogging craze.
Essentially, it is up to you to define how you want blogs to continue, evolve, and exist (hopefully) for at least a while longer.
What are your thoughts on the direction that blogging as a general hobby or occupation is taking or has taken? Let us know!

I guess it depends on where most people blog from. If most people are blogging from their current “day job” it seems like it could slow down. On the other hand, if people blog from home, it could increase because they have more “free time”. I guess only time will tell!
I agree. Predictions should be taken with a grain of salt.
Thanks for this 5 part series.
Most of the blogs I see are monetized, and that supplements earning. So,I expect this trend to continue in the future.
True. As long as there is ways to monetize blogs (which there always will be) blogging will be popular. But even then it would be used for personal reasons.
Take away Adsense and bloggers will be reduced to the hard core folks.
Not at all. The hardcores sell ads directly and promote there own services and affiliate programs on there sites.
Blogging is definitely here to stay. I do agree with you on the fact that we will start to see less bloggers as the “hype” wheres off and people do it for the right reasons not just because it was a “fad” or craze.
Yes, the money will still be there as long as people are going online…because advertisers will always want their attention.
More people will try blogging but also more people will get tired of blogging. Blogging might become more mainstream and commercialized, but nobody really knows.
That’s for sure about them getting tired of blogging. There will be 3 groups.
Ones that do it for fun. (totally personal)
Ones that do it as a pro. (for income)
And corporates trying to play their hand at it.
Blogging is here to stay. I like the fact that Twitter has taken over blogging in a big way, the blogs are the sources of the talk in Twitter. Also, it is the blog who give out vital information
Blogging might stay or might go. Judging from the blogging evolution of these past few years, the radical shifts is paradigm actually tell us that it is hard to predict what comes next…
May be a survey or a poll could decide
I think the “hype” of blogging has died down. Not because it’s ineffective, it’s EXTREMELY effective and efficient, but like any other “NEW” thingy intorduced…it peaks from the news and hype then it filters down to the normal rate.
Blogging isn’t going any where. It’s just a simple way of communicating on the Net. And communication isn’t going any where.
Although, it’s going to get better.
Read 5 parts in same breath. Great lol
LOL. Maybe it’s just because it’s the weekend, but reading that comment and seeing the gravatar next to it, made me laugh. LOL
I’ve noticed quite a few blogs where posts are fewer and far between or even dying out.
Yeah, these are just “for fun” bloggers
LOL…True. They’re just testing the waters
There would me more blogs for making money and less blogs for souls. I think those, whi just want to share some thoughts will migrate to Twitter or so.
Without readers, blogs will simply vanish. Blogs will die of natural causes.
I have noticed that with the decline of the economy many bloggers have simply deserted their blogs or sold up.
I haven’t done so, I’ve just put more effort in and tried to capitalize on this
No doubt blogging has become a part of the life of the people,it reveals different opportunities for different people. Some of them consider it to be communication, the other runs it as they run business.Tastes differ! But nobody can say what will go out of it because every time the life is changeable.
I agree. Let’s not get in to hasty generalizations about the future of blogs. The truthis nobody expected it to happen this way right now!
Yes,really nobody knows what will go out of blogging in some years.I wonder if blogging is subjected by recessions.
The economy is affecting every area of life in the US, I’m sure blogging has seen a recent downturn since people are trying harder to find alternate sources of income and have less free time.
