Blogging Tip : Should We Build Multiple, Similar Blogs? – Pros and Cons

In the previous post, we knew two topics of building multiple blogs. We also discussed some basic concepts about the question “what should you do if you feel so passionately about a subject” … In this post, we’ll take a look at the main pros and cons of having multiple websites or blogs within the same main niche (let’s say you have a blog on blog tips and want to start additional blogs on single aspects of the main topic).

Pros

  • Linking each site together will allow you to climb in search engine rank, as there is relevance between each site, even though topics may be quite different.
  • You will become acknowledged as being one of the prime figures in the field as long as you can continue pursuing blogging as a profession.
  • More people will be able to connect with one another as your portfolio of sites/blogs continues growing.
  • You will have more to write about. Simply covering a single subject may lead to boredom, but writing on multiple topics you love (within the same main niche) will be more enjoyable.

Cons

  • Within search engines and through your small “network,” sites may begin competing against each other, especially if you are using similar promotional methods.
  • Subjects may fade, becoming less popular, and with this, your traffic and earnings will also decrease.
  • It may become tiresome covering multiple subjects, despite the fact that you do have more to write about – there is simply too much.

Conclusion

How do you feel about starting multiple blogs with similar topics to help share your passion with others? Or, should you focus on one main blog that covers literally the entire niche? Are there any pros and cons when building multiple blogs?

It’s very difficulty to handle multiple blogs because your have to give lots of time to both of them for promoting and writing..If you mistakenly forget about one blog then it will go dead after some time…

I have few blogs but i mainly look at my main blog which is over blogging tips. Rest are just for trying viral techniques and or affiliate earning which requires less work..

Maintaining two blogs is difficult. Depends on person to person. for me maintaining one blog itself gives a lot of headache

I would say that you begin with one blog and let it get some quality traffic, Then lauch more sites and you can link from your already successful site and it will succeed really fast.

    Thats my policy.. :)

Good strategy but make sure the successful site links to a related topic blog to optimize the traffic.

I personally feels having multiple blog will give advantage in search engine ( if on similar background ), I myself runs three sites , on two i give more focus as it is my bred and butter. while i give little concentration on third which is linked with this post. Right now i am able to get 1000+ daily visitors on two site while other is just as dead, now i think time to push third one to some traffic. but problem is , i can’t link third with first two as topic is totally different. Just trying to find some time to put some interesting stuff for third one. All and all as Nihar mention its headache to keep multiple site.

Sometimes, we might run out of idea. If we have good contents and can write at least 2 or 3 posts a day, then we can consider to open similar blog. Otherwise, better don’t.

I agree with you. Better to put your posts in just 1 blog if you do not have the resources and the blog posts to mantain more.

Right now, I’m thinking of starting one more blog but still worry on the content and link building activity. I’m worried that I couldn’t concentrate more in the new blog.

I share the idea of running the only blog.Let one have the only blog but with good contents, good traffic and other good characteristics,I admit that at the beginning a blogger might launch two or three.I am sure only by experimental way one can see the result and the time will show what goes out of it.

I have no quarrel with the general principle of having a few blogs rather than just a single one. For the moment however, when I am busy getting myself capable of handling my single blog, I suppose that it is best that I concentrate on that one till it stabilizes and I achieve what I hope to.

Very true Nicole. One of the biggest reasons people fail online is trying to do to much, but if time is available, or you can outsource more task then you can manage more blogs or sites.

I think it will also depend on your desired frequency of posting. If you’re trying to post to each blog once a day, then having 5 blogs might be too much to handle. But if you’re satisfied with posting to each blog once a week, then 5 blogs seems more doable.

Niche website should always be separated there are actually many more pros than that randing from diluted content eg. keyword frequency to ability to sell one of the blogs away if the subject becomes something you are no longer interesting in. Besides, you know what happens with too many eggs in one basket.

I’m in favor of starting multiple blogs for the reasons you discussed in the “pros” section of your post. I have found that the search engines are pretty generous with multi blogs and I am getting unique search traffic on each one.

I don’t think creating multiple blogs is a right thing to do, if you really want to be a professional blogger, just concentrate on the just one blog and put you 110 percent, you will really see the results in front of you, thanks.

Multiple yes, similar no. If you create similar your sharing there by dividing the quality. If you want to write more blogs choose a completely different topic.

Similar, but it a diferent niche is ok. For instance lets take the niche running. You can have a blog about marathon or cross country running and then you can have a blog about sprinting or track running.

Same niche of running, but a totally different market.

Well if at least one of your blogs is already doing well in terms of PR and traffic, it would be easier to start another blog with a slightly different topic but under the same main there. In TV shows it’s called the spin-off.

It really depends what topic blogger is blogging about and how much time can he devote in developing multiple blogs. If the topic is easy to categorize and there is a lot to write about it each category then multiple combination would be better because of niche targeting.

we should be careful when dealing with backlinks. google also considering your servers ip address.
using multiple c class ip address for each domain/subdomain is the only option to “cheat” the giant master :)

All I can say is if you are a blue personality you better stick with one blog and do it right. I have two going at the present time but I am concentrating more on my prime. It will pay off in the long run. Hats off to those of you are have a green personality and can handle more than one thing at a time. I need to find my green side. LOL

I think you could create multiple sites with in the same niche that do different things. Like a tools site, a forum, and other social sites. Don’t just diversify the content but how the content is made and how your users interact with it.

It can be very difficult to focus on multiple jobs because we have to write quality content for multiple blogs and then SEO for multiple blogs which is very very time consuming.
