Viewport Wordpress Theme from Smashing Magazine
Smashing Magazine has just featured a new professional Wordpress theme on their site. Viewport is a free Wordpress theme created by Paul Bennett is focused around a clean and simple content based layout with sliding ‘panels’ displaying images to represent posts. The aim is to grab the user’s attention and draw them straight into the content. On the single post page the content is laid out clearly in full, with post controls and a widget-enabled sidebar. The theme also allows the blog owner to change the background image and color, and the image of the ‘Where Next?’ page.
The main idea behind Viewport was to present the user with a viewport showcasing the bloggers posts in a graphic form. There has been a recent trend to break away from conventional blog design, and Viewport aims to further extend that by using imagery to complement the post content. It particularly suits the creative market, providing a good platform to showcase projects and ideas.
I think this theme is better suited for professional websites rather than blogs. We expect regular visitors in our blog and they dont need the images, it makes the regular readers uneasy i think

Classic feel theme. Can also be used as a review site themes with the help of some useful WP plugins

I know Unique blog Designs does Shoemoney, and their offering ain’t a theme, they do custom WordPress development. Please correct me if I’m wrong though!
Stylish and very modern theme, not so good for daily bloggers. It is definitely perfect for designers and photo lovers.
The screenshot image is awesome..
The graphic is unnerving, looks to me a little like your big intestine dripping bodily fluids…
It’s a good design for Photoshoppers, though, like maybe that Fail blog or Photoshop Disasters, only perhaps a more positive thinking blog.

It looks like an interesting concept but I don’t know how I would actually use it. As the other commentators stated it’s probably best for galleries.
one of the most original themes i ever seen. The problem relys one the difficulty of use perhaps….
The Viewport theme is very different from the majority of themes, and is wonderful for people wanting to showcase pictures or videos. I expect to see it used on a site or two, as it stands out as much as it can, with the images taking up most of the available browser space. The sliding effect is smooth, and videos play in separate sections.

i recently started a photoblog using this theme. i really like the look of it, but there is one big issue. it does not offer the ability to link to the full image. the full image only ever appears on the front page and not on the specific post page. unfortunately, i need this function. i am either going to edit the theme, or find a new theme or service…
