Wordpress 2.6.5 Released

WordPress has just released a new version to their blogging software. This update included one security problem and three minor bugs fixed. The security issue is an XSS exploit discovered by Jeremias Reith that fortunately only affects IP-based virtual servers running on Apache 2.x. You are recommended to upgrade immediately to this release.

Since they’re only some small changes, you don’t need to download the entire WordPress program, just grab the following files and copy them over your 2.6.3 installation.

  • wp-includes/post.php
  • wp-includes/version.php
  • wp-includes/feed.php
  • wp-admin/users.php
  • xmlrpc.php

Well, Wordpress 2.7 is still not yet available :)

Thanks for letting us know which files to change, better than overwriting them all.

I’m soooo looking forward to testing out wordpress 2.7, especially the in admin comment editor!

Hey, Thanks for giving off the exact files here. That really helped.

‘Note that we are skipping version 2.6.4 and jumping from 2.6.3 to 2.6.5 to avoid confusion with a fake 2.6.4 release that made the rounds. There is not and never will be a version 2.6.4.’

Really have to be careful with internet liar.

Thank you for making thing easier for us to upgrade. My question is, “Just download the files you point to us and replace the one we have for our 2.6.3 installation and the change will automatically be made?

Yep, Just download these files and overwrite the already existing files. But make sure that you make a backup of the files you are going to replace. You will need them if something goes wrong.

      cheers…

Got it. Nice one thanks! I am busy playing / constructing my 1st WordPress Blog, and this kind of support is awesome! Version 2.7 is due out soon-soon, but they still go to the trouble of ensuring the current version is fully supported. Awesome!

I’ve just upgraded my WP account to 2.6.5 from 2.6.2. Not much difference can be noticed.
