Show off your followers with Followers blogger widget
This post was written to provide a basic guide about one of the most newest widgets of Blogger beta – Followers blogger widget. Please note that it is being under testing so if you don’t see it right away, don’t worry. It’s coming soon
(Blogger.com enabled this feature for me yesterday)
What is Following?
Would you like to know who enjoys reading your blog? Or stay updated with your favorite blogs right from your Blogger dashboard? Well now you can do that and more with the Blogger Following feature! You can even keep track of the blogs you follow via your Reading List on the Blogger dashboard.
How do I become a Follower of a blog?
There are two ways to become a follower of a blog.
Option 1. Add a blog to your Reading List.
First, click on the “Blogs I’m Following” tab under “My Reading List” on your Blogger Dashboard.

Then, click on the blue “Add” button in the bottom left corner of your Reading List.

Next, insert the URL of the blog you’d like to follow in the URL box. You can add as many blogs as you’d like by clicking on “Add another“. When you have added all of your favorite blogs, click the orange “Next” button.

You’ll then be given the option to either follow publicly or anonymously:

Then click the orange “Follow” button and that’s it! You’ve added all your favorite blogs to your Reading List! Now, every time one of the blogs are updated the latest post will be displayed in your reading list under the “Items” section.

Option 2. Visit a blog that has added the Following widget and click on the “Follow this Blog” link under the “Followers” widget then do several steps as above.
How to add the Following gadget to your blog
It’s really easy to add the Following widget to your blog. First go to the Layout -> Page Elements tab for your blog. Click the “Add a Gadget” link that appears in the sidebar of your layout. You’ll then see a popup window with all the different types of Gadgets you can add to your blog. Look for the one called “Followers” and click on the blue “+” icon

You can then enter your desired title for your Following widget. Once you have chosen a title, click the orange “Save” button. You have now added the following widget to your blog!

Will take time to make this widget popular… People will only follow if they see everywhere follower widget to follow.
You follow… I follow… Everyone will surely follow.
ooo… ok.. let me put my widget to see if someone want to follow
i’m still looking for the HTML coding for “Followers” feature, ’cause i’m using classic template, not new template.

thanks. have a nice day.
Its time to upgrade to new blogger template dear… You won’t get support for old classic HTML template easily..
Some of us use the old classic blogger because the new blogger isn’t as flexible as the old. Give it time…some people do find ways to make it work on the old.
anyone know how to get the number of people who are following the blog?
I’m afraid we can’t
oow… okkay.
thanks anyway. =)
i’ve got it. thanks
is there any possibility that this might be ‘hacked’ for use in classic templates?
Nice Widget
do you have the html codings for this?
im using classic template.
Followers widget is only for XML templates!
Hi, it is a great widget indeed. I wonder if there is anyway for changing the order in which followers are shown. They are always in inverse order of arrival. I think random order would be more fair and fun, also because our dearest friends are usually the first ones to start following
.
This widget is great! I’ve seen it in action on some blogs and I was wondering how those webmasters put it in there. I’ll include it in my best blogs, thanks a lot for sharing it.
Indeed, this is one of the new way of communicate and attract people to use blog. Very good apps.. Its working in my country.. see my blog for example.. http://onggon.blogspot.com
Great post. So many people really don’t know how to do this. I like when you do tutorials. They’re really helpful.
nice widget but you must follow the other so they can follow yours , also you need XML templates because i think it don’t work with classic templates .
I want the followers thing on my blog, but im using classic template, the new one wont let me have the layout that i have, im not a html wiz. is there anyway i can get my layout to work on the upgraded one so i can get the following widget?
I added the followers widget to my site, but my followers’ pictures are not displaying. They are all public followers also. Any idea on how I can fix this? Thanks!
I’m having the same problem as Kate – none of my followers show a picture. Also, when I become a follower or leave a comment my pic doesn’t show. Help!
Thanks – Jane
This is a great way to keep your followers intact.
Hi
I tried to add the follow gadget but i found it Experimental
what can i do to add it ??
thanks in advance
I will put the gadget itself. Thanks for the interesting idea.
Blog following is a very interesting concept….I have seen so many people placing followers gadget in their blog. It even shows the authority of the blog.
Do you have any idea why my followers widget would stop sending updated posts to my followers? It stopped around a month ago and hasn’t sent anything since even though I have had several new posts.
thanks
kim
